THE EZRA MEEKER HISTORICAL POST

THE HOME, AND COLLECTORS.
After thirteen years of continuous work
and at the final cost of $21,000,000 this
structure in 1883 was opened for traffic. Al-
though not the largest bridge in existence,
doubtless more passengers have crossed it
than any other in the world.
With two trolley tracks and trains in the
rush hours leaving every minute, two street-
car tracks crowded with cars, two road-
beds jammed full of all sorts of vehicles,
with a central promenade for footmen full
to overflowing, yet at times this great
structure is taxed to its utmost capacity
and fairly groans and trembles under the
burden of the countless throng.
