HEMPSTEAD, LONG ISLAND
Just 22 miles from New York City lies Hemp-
stead Village, one of the most active and pro-
gressive of all the Long Island communities.
Centrally located, the "Hub of Long Island"
is within a short distance of famous airfields,
polo fields, race tracks, and ocean bathing.
With a historic background of more than
three centuries, Hempstead is principally a
residential community. It was here in 1665
that the famous "Duke's Laws" were written,
giving to New York State its first code of
Municipal Laws. They are carefully guarded
as precious historical documents of colonial
democracy.
