Early Experience: After graduating from college,
Margaret Sullavan joined E. E. Clive's stock company
in Boston, training ground of many a present star.
She organised a repertory troupe with James Stewart
and others at Cape Cod. Later toured in "The
Constant Nymph," "Coquette," "The Firebrand,"
and "Strictly Dishonourable," during the last of
which she was seen by a Broadway manager and
given the lead in the New York production, "The
Modern Virgin." Scored a hit and became a
Broadway favourite in "If Love were All," "Happy
Landings," "Chrysalis," and "Dinner at Eight,
which won her a Hollywood contract and stardom
in "Only Yesterday" in 1933. Her latest pictures
include "Three Comrades," "The Shopworn
Angel," and "The Shining Hour."
