Portales, New Mexico
Portales has a population of over 10,000 within
the city limits and a trade territory that includes
some 25,000 people. The most important single
development of the city was the establishment
of Eastern New Mexico University. It remains
an important ranching and agriculture center, but
also boasts the states largest dairy industry,
producing one-fourth of the milk consumed in
New Mexico.
