On March 29, 1638 the first Swedes landed in
America at Wilmington. The old Swedes first
church was built in 1698. The stone used
in its construction was carried by the women
SERVICE of the colony. The bricks for the aisles and the
hinges for the stalls in the interior were im-
ported from Sweden.
