THE CARNEGIE LIBRARY, whose corner stone was laid
May 1, 1902, is a fine example of Italian Renaissance archi-
tecture; including its site, it is worth nearly $100,000, of
which Andrew Carnegie contributed $50,000. Besides 10,000
volumes, it contains the State documents and many rare
manuscripts relating to the early history of Texas.
