deep) and the vast Berkeley Pit (well over a square
mile in size and about 1/3 mile deep). Left: Ore
trucks ply the pit, with crane loading them in
distance. Top right: Huge ore truck pauses at
checking station. Bottom right: "Gallows frame"
supports an elevator system for transporting men,
equipment and ore in underground operations at
the Mountain Con Mine.
