ART
KIMONO is always hand-sewn, and the cutting of various parts is more or less standardised. Japanese women,
therefore, pay more attention to the colour and pattern of the fabric, while Western women consider the design and style
as more important.
This shows a typical summer KIMONO of cotton called
YUKATA. It is generally dyed with indigo in bold patterns,
and harmonises well with the summer air of Japan.
ART
KASURI (splashed pattern), KOMON (small pattern),
SHIMA (stripes) and IGETA (well-crib pattern) are some of
the typical traditional patterns. While KASURI is generally
quiet, it has a simple beauty of its own.
ART
HAORI is a kind of coat wrapped in cold seasons. Very
·bold pictorial patterns are often adopted for HAORI to en-
hance the elegant beauty of KIMONO underneath.
ART
The pattern of this KIMONO is called YAGASURI. It
has a long traditional history, and is still one of the best
loved patterns of the younger generation of to-day.
ART
KIMGINO is never complete without its accompanying
OBI (sash) Every woman never forgets to pay an utmost
attention to the harmony of the two, and to the style of tying
the OBI which is numerous and varied.
