SMITHSONIAN ASTROPHYSICAL
Located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the Smith-
sonian Astrophysical Observatory makes significant
contributions to knowledge of astrophysics, through
studies of meteors, meteorites, artificial satellites,
geophysics, stellar atmospheres and space science.
With data from artificial satellites, obtained by its
network of twelve tracking stations located in coun-
tries around the world, the Observatory is measuring
the density and temperature of the atmosphere at
various heights above the earth. It is also designing
and instrumenting new telescopes. Such studies are
helping man to master space.
