SATELLITE VEHICLE
The Vanguard blasts off from its launching
stand at Cape Canaveral, Fla., carrying in its
nose a small earth satellite. This "baby moon"
is now circling the earth as part of United
States participation in the International Geo-
physical Year. The Vanguard, undertaken by
the Naval Research Laboratory, is one of the
rockets now being tested at the Air Force Missile
Test Center.
